Born in the 70119, and pluckily moving to New York at the age of 18, I found myself on an August day in 2004 listening to a mediocre brass band in Washington Square Park.
"Betcha don't get this in New Orleens!" my new, well-intentioned Mid-Western friend exclaimed, relishing in the concept of live music in a public space. Rather than simply mention that we do indeed have live music on the streets of my hometown or gracefully tell a white lie in agreement, I could only think that I had just made a terrible mistake leaving the gem of a city I'd grown up in. Although I had just arrived in New York, I resolved in that moment that I would promptly return home and never take anything in my hometown for granted again. Ever the cautious planner, I followed through on that eight years later.
Between that day and the present, I've had the pleasure of working in TV production, film marketing, restaurants, theatrical production, and am conservatory-trained in acting, directing, and writing.
Currently, I work in commercial broadcast production and shoot, write, and photograph my own independent projects.
I've since cut that brass band in the park some slack.
